About Me

My photo
Steven D'Amico
In 1968 I had my first experience drawing for an audience other than my parents. After seeing decorations of dinosaurs on my homework papers, my first grade teacher Miss Sickler asked if I'd like to draw in front of the entire class. As I drew on the blackboard I explained the difference between an Allosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus, and pointed out that Diplodocus was much longer than the Brontosaurus. I became a minor celebrity at Valley School that day, and my fate as an illustrator was sealed. After drawing cartoons for my high school newspaper, I went on to study fine art and design at Cornish Institute in Seattle.

As Senior Art Director for Smashing Ideas, my work has appeared on websites for PBS Kids, Nick Jr. and the Disney Channel. I've also done a fair amount of freelance work for exhibits at the Experience Music Project in Seattle and the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, among others.

Since 2003 I've illustrated several children's books including the Ella The Elephant stories for Arthur A. Levine Books and Suki The Very Loud Bunny for Dutton. A television series based on the Ella series is in production and due to air September 2013.
